Due to its invaluable coral reef ecosystem and relevant biologies, Taiwan government decided to add another duty from military used to Dongsha island, which is a national park.

Dongsha National Park locates in the northern part of South China, 450 kilometers from Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

It is contained in the Dongsha atoll, which makes it look like being embedded in the circle of the atoll.

Those circle actually are the shape of the atoll, form by coral polyps for millions of years.

Except the incredible biologies and over 250 species of corals, such as, the blue fire coral and octocorals, the historical remains passed through centuries are doubtlessly valuable.

Dongsha, this name was firstly documented in Ching Dynasty (Jia-Ching period). "A fishfarer illustrated it as a '"sands floating in the sea "', and named it Dongsha."(Dongsha Atoll National Park,p.18)
